Podcast 10 Has Loads of News & Music From Machete Avenue

It's MelodyTrip.com's podcast #10.  I'm your host, Heather Larson, and it's Thursday, June 7, 2007.  I'm back from a quickie trip to San Diego -- the first time I'd been there since I was a little kid and we had a great time.  I recorded some beach sound for you from Pacific Beach…which you’ll hear in the  podcast.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD:
Page all the way down to “attachments” in the small print right above the comments.  Oh, and feel free to leave one of those too.

Now onto the news!

The Stooges Added To V-Fest

The Stooges have been added to the V-Festival lineup in addition to people like Sinead O'Connor, who has a new album out on the 25th in the UK called "Theology."  The Stooges join a lineup that already includes The Killers, Foo Fighters, Snow "If I Just Lay Here" Patrol, Pink, Kanye West, Editors, Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen, and Kasabian.

This Weekend in Toronto: North By Northeast Featuring 450 Bands

Going on right now, June 7-10th, is North By Northeast in Toronto.  Looks like a $28 wristband gets you into this one...sounds too good to be true!  You get to see 450 bands throughout this weekend, so you're sure to discover something new and fabulous...or check out the tried and true bands we've heard of before: Dinosaur Jr., Urge Overkill, and Peaches who will be playing it.  My buddy Danny Brown from Suite101.com's indie page is going to be out there all weekend, so we'll have some info from him for next week's podcast.  In interest of full disclosure, I do the pop music page at suite101.com.  My page is popmusic.suite101.com.  Danny's is indiemusic.suite101.com.  As extra incentive to visit our pages, you can see what we look like in our little circular photos...

So I was just suffering looking for something indie to play in this week's podcast.  I always get my stuff -- podsafe -- off of music.podshow.com.  I was hoping to find something from North By Northwest but found it overwhelming wading through a lineup of 450 bands!  I decided to grab an indie artist I read about on Danny Brown's page...called Machete Avenue.  The song from Machete Avenue is from the PodShow Podsafe Music Network. Check it out at music.podshow.com.  The song is called “Time Capsule.”

More on Machete Avenue:

They're on tour right now through Canada right now; more info on their MySpace page.

Big State Festival Brings On The Country in Texas

So we haven't talked about country in a while...  Let's change that and talk about the Big State Festival in Bryan-College Station.  There are 50 country artists ready to play including Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Trace Adkins, Lynyrd Skynrd, my Phoenix native and most favorite Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, The Wreckers, etc.  Yeah, don't mess with Texas!

Stooges in Spain!

From Texas we go to Spain and the Benicassim fest with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Stooges, Arctic Monkeys, and Muse.  July 19-22 on the Costa Brava Coast.

Calgary Folk Fest Very Diverse

The Calgary Folk Fest lineup has been announced and includes Rufus Wainwright, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Chumbawumba, Don McLean, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, and a ton more.  It's very diverse and taking place from July 26-29.

Pitchfork’s Impressive Lineup

I also think you need to know who all is doing Pitchfork.  The full lineup has been announced.  It's huge.  Seriously.  We don't have the time to go over it!  No, the link is in the show notes so check it out.  I'll name a few standouts right now.  Cat Power, Clipse, De La Soul, Klaxons, Sonic Youth, Gza, and Yoko Ono of all people.

Summerfest Shaping Up To Be The Fest of the Year Or Damn Near, Daughtry Just Added

So Chris Daughtry's band is headlining Summerfest in Wisconsin July 6th.  How's the for star power at Summerfest, already turning into THE summer festival for 2007, in my opinion.  It's pretty huge -- they even call it the "World's Largest Music Festival" on the website.  It's got a great lineup too!  Violent Femmes, The Chadwicks, Jack's Mannequin, Wolfmother, REO Speedwagon, Phil Vassar, Puddle of Mudd, and the one and only Dickey Betts.  That's just the headliners from June 28th too!

I’m On The Peak And We Have Our Own Festival.  We Call It Festivus.

Not that I haven’t shamelessly plugged the heck out of myself and friends so far in this podcast…  But it bears repeating that the Peak has Festivus coming up in August with Don Henley, the Pretenders, and Brian Setzer with his Stray Cats.  Not only that, but we’ve got a brand new video on the website of us tearing around the desert in Tom Cars.  Steve Douglas has graciously removed all the embarrassing woman-driver types of things I did…but he also removed a shot of me getting some big air off a hill!  (Unless of course he wasn’t taping me at that moment).  Anyway, watch the video on Peak TV at http://987thepeak.com/.  The “Girls Gone Wild” music he uses is so bad it’s funny.  I’m the one dressed as a boy in the camo shorts and hat…yet still had a woman driver moment and was Monica’s woman-driver moment victim along with Mini and Jodi.  I’m holding the camera from the backseat as Monica drives…
