MelodyTrip's Podcast #8: Lots of news, music from Tea Leaf Green, Astrology, & Radio Waves from Space

To download the podcast page all they way down to "attachments" which is right above "comments."  Feel free to leave one of those too...leave feedback on the podcast, ask a question, let me know what you'd like to hear about.  You can also e-mail me at hotwords@mac.com.

So this week, we talk about lots of global festival news, listen to a couple songs from Tea Leaf Green, and I'll recommend a cool astrology website you'll want to check out -- especially if you're attending Harmony Fest in Santa Rosa, CA.  One of our MelodyTrip correspondents, Adrian, has a podcast of his own I think you'd like to check out as well.  So all the info is below.

By the way, I think I should offer an explanation for the sound you hear in the background…it’s the fan on my laptop.  I’m in Phoenix, it’s hot, and I thought turning off the ceiling fan would get rid of the hiss.  I honestly thought that’s what the sound was, but it’s my own laptop.

Onto the music festival news…

It's Sunday June 10 at Clinton State Park, Clinton Lake in Lawrence, Kansas.  Widespread Panic, Medeski Martin & Wood, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Les Claypool, Son Volt, Tea Leaf Green, Yo Momma's Big Fat Booty Band, and Yonder Mountain String Band are set to play.  Just to name a few...

Tea Leaf Green:

I snagged two songs of theirs from the PodShow Podsafe Music Network, which you can Check out at music.podshow.com.  The first song I play is called "Taught To Be Proud."  The second one is "The Garden Part III."  The songs were added in 2005 to podshow, so they a couple years old.  If you want to hear some newer stuff, go to one of the festivals listed below.  Or check 'em out on MySpace:   http://www.myspace.com/tealeafgreen

Cheap Trick to play Naperville's Last Fling in Illinois

http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/entertainment/354297,2_5_AU24_FLING_S1.article

Cheap Trick is one of rock's most underrated bands, no? Yes?  Feel free to leave a comment to voice your opinion because that would be fun.  They will play the Naperville Last Fling, a 4-day festival from August 31-September 3.  That's Labor Day weekend and the event is put on by the Naperville Jaycees.

Monolith Fest

Another great destination fest is Monolith at Red Rocks, September 14th and 15th at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Colorado.  Over fifty bands on five stages include Cake, Kings of Leon, The Flaming Lips, The Decemberists, Das EFX, and a ton more.  Tickets available now on Ticketmaster.

Harmony Festival at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California

Yay!  A Bay Area festival!  I may live in Phoenix now, but I grew up in the Bay and I'd move back in a heartbeat...provided housing has improved since 2000.  Headliners at Harmony include Erykah Badu, Brian Wilson, The Roots, Common, & Rickie Lee Jones.  There are of course a ton more performers to see and hear.  Ariana Huffington is speaking, so is astrologer Rob Breszny, who is so cool!  I am living off his current Leo horoscope right now, I can't even tell you.  Rabbi Michael Lerner also is speaking.  So you can guess the cause by now, right?  It is THE cause of 2007 -- our Earth.  The fest is kid-friendly, all about natural foods and green living.  Sonoma County is fully committed to reducing its greenhouse gasses and the fest doesn't leave much waste behind, making do with recycling and composting.

I highly recommend Rob Brezsny's Free Will Astrology site:

Bonnaroo To Have Dedicated Jazz Club

Somethin' Else will be its name and it is to be curated by Blue Note Records.  Yes, a real jazz club will be right there in the middle of the country's best music fest.  And if you disagree that Bonnaroo is our best U.S. fest, maybe you want to argue Coachella is, go ahead and leave a comment below.  Expect live performances, jazz discussions, and photography and album artwork exhibitions there.
